Train: fastest and cheapest

A small railbus runs between the airport station and Vilnius railway station (Vilniaus geležinkelio stotis) in about 7 minutes. The station is a short signposted walk from the terminal.

  • Fare: about €0.80 (as of 2026 — confirm on Vilnius Airport).
  • Buy tickets at the machine, online, or on board.
  • The catch: there are only a handful of trains a day, with long and uneven gaps. Check the timetable before you rely on it.

The railway station sits just south of the Old Town, with onward buses, trolleybuses and taxis outside.

City buses

Several JUDU buses stop right outside the arrivals terminal and run every 10–30 minutes:

  • 88 and night bus 88N — Airport → city centre → Europa Square.
  • 3G — express across the city via the centre (every ~10 minutes).
  • 1 and 2 — towards the railway and bus stations.

Paying for the bus

There are three ways to pay, and the price depends on which you choose:

  • Contactless bank card on the on-board validator — pay-as-you-go.
  • m.Ticket / Trafi app — a 30-minute ticket is about €0.65, a 60-minute ticket about €0.90.
  • Cash to the driver — a single ticket is €1.00 (driver only takes cash).

One ticket, one trip

A time-based ticket (30 or 60 minutes) covers transfers within that window, so you can change buses on the way to your neighbourhood without paying again. Validate or activate it as soon as you board.

Taxi and Bolt

For late arrivals, lots of luggage, or travelling as a group, a car is the simplest choice.

  • Official taxi rank at arrivals: a ride to the Old Town (Cathedral Square) is roughly €10, and to Konstitucijos avenue around €12. Rates are regulated, but check the tariff displayed in the car before setting off.
  • Bolt (and similar apps) usually works out cheaper and shows the price up front. Order in the app and follow the marked pickup point.

Avoid touts inside the terminal

Never accept a ride from someone approaching you in the arrivals hall — these can be heavily overpriced. Use the official rank or order through an app with an agreed fare.

Which should you pick?

  • Erasmus and exchange students arriving in daylight: take the bus — it is cheapest, frequent, and gets you used to the JUDU system you will use all term.
  • Degree-seekers (EU and non-EU) with a term's worth of luggage: a Bolt or rank taxi is worth the extra euros, especially if your dorm or flat is away from the centre.
  • Late-night flights: night bus 88N or a Bolt — the train and most day services have stopped.

The transport route is the same whatever your status; only your luggage and arrival time really change the best choice.
